Church of St. Peter

The Church of St. Peter has an active youth ministry program serving grades 7-12 while also giving opportunities for young adults to become involved.  We are guided by the Holy Spirit to bring about a youth ministry program that fully embraces Christ’s call to love and serve one another and to “go and make disciples of the nations” (Matthew 28:19).  We work to form disciples through involvement, service, fellowship, and prayer.

Here are some of the programs currently offered:

High School Peer Ministry (Grades 10-12)
This group meets once a month on Mondays to discuss matters of faith that are relevant to today’s society and to bond as a tight-knit Christian Catholic Community through prayer, recreation, and various activities.  For more info, visit our peer ministry page.

Junior High Summer Stretch (grades 6-8)

This summer program meets every Wednesday during to summer to do service together and then to do a fun activity for the afternoon such as water parks, rock climbing, Valley Fair and more

Recreational Activities
As our youth groups get underway and begin planning various events for the all the youth of our parish, we will be considering all of the following activities:

  • Ski trips
  • Dances
  • Athletic events and games
  • Movies
  • Camping/Hiking trips
  • Concerts/Talent nights
  • Other events our youth groups develop!!

Retreats and Conferences
Part of growing in faith as a young adult requires one to occasionally spend time outside of familiar community settings. Both of the youth groups will participate in their own retreats in select areas of the state. In addition, there will be opportunities through other organizations to join a retreat or attend various faith-based conferences. Examples may include but are not limited to:

  • Junior High/Senior High youth group retreats
  • Leadership Conferences
  • National Catholic Youth Conference, Summer 2009
  • World Youth Day in Madrid, Spain 2011

Mission/Service Trips
St. Peter's Youth serve others through a variety of community projects and mission trips. Inspired by the motto of “Thinking Globally and Acting Locally,” our youth groups will attempt to learn more and immerse ourselves more fully into the entire Minneapolis/St. Paul community. Many of our brothers and sisters suffer from the injustice of poverty around the world and right in our own backyard. With experiences such as:

  • Service trips to centers helping the poor and marginalized
  • Immersion trips to neighborhoods and local areas affected by poverty
  • Larger mission trips to places outside of Minnesota
  • Summer Stretch service projects (for grades 6-8)

We as young people can share the experience of Christian service and solidarity with those who suffer from poverty and injustice.

Fundraising/Donations
One necessary part of supporting strong youth groups and youth ministry in our parish is pulling off successful and fun fundraisers. Youth groups will look at various options throughout the year to help offset costs of our more expensive activities, retreats, conferences, and mission/service trips.

Furthermore, in developing a permanent youth space in our parish community, we rely on donations of all sorts of items. They include but are not limited to:

  • furniture
  • games/game tables
  • food for activities
  • athletic equipment
  • resources for service projects
