Wednesday Evening Religious Ed Curriculum

In 2008-09, the Faith Formation Department will continue the new format for Wednesday Evening Religious Education it began last year. This model allows for a variety of talents to be utilized to bring faith formation to students in a very energetic structure. It also implements a dynamic curriculum corresponding to the Archdiocesan Religious standards while flowing within the context of the Liturgical season.

A typical evening provides students the opportunity to participate in community prayer, engage in activities with their own grade-level communities, and attend a learning station, informing and reinforcing the particular theme of that evening’s session. The students actively engage numerous materials and activities, rather than simply spending an hour “in class” at the end of an already long day.

The program also recognizes the crucial role of parents as the first educators of children, and strives to work together with parents in order to support lifelong faith formation in families. Therefore, each week, we provide a take-home component reinforcing the theme of the session, as well as giving families the opportunity to explore Catholic faith within the home. Also, parents are invited to attend particular family-oriented sessions, allowing them the opportunity to learn about particular subjects and themes as well.

This is only the second year of the new format, and Faith Formation leaders Chris Magee and newcomer Hannah Waterfield are excited to continue this unique program!
