Youth at the Church of St. Peter receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in grade nine. Confirmation is celebrated once per year at the Cathedral of St. Paul. All Confirmation candidates must be Baptized, and have received the sacraments of First Reconciliation and Eucharist. Students preparing for Confirmation must:
- Complete a series of courses
- Meet attendance requirements
- Select and build a relationship with a Confirmation Sponsor (Sponsor must be a Confirmed Catholic, 18 years of age or older who is not a parent)
- Attend the Confirmation Retreat
- Complete 20 service hours (10 parish community and 10 outside community) and appropriate forms
- Attend rehearsal, reconciliation service, and Confirmation on May 13 and 14
Reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace because through the reception of this sacrament, the faithful are more closely bound to the Church and enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit.
If you or your student are past grade nine and have not been Confirmed, please contact Hannah Waterfield for information on preparing for this sacrament.
Sponsor Guidelines/Qualifications:
A candidate needs to choose a sponsor.
The sponsor must be a confirmed, practicing Catholic who is at least 18 years of age. The sponsor may not be the father or mother of the candidate. We urge the candidate to choose Godparents or someone who lives close by so he/she can participate in the program with the candidate and lend spiritual support to the candidate in the coming years. Sponsor forms must be turned by the October deadline.
