Youth at the Church of St. Peter receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in grade nine. Confirmation is celebrated once per year at the Cathedral of St. Paul or the Basilica of Saint Mary. All Confirmation candidates must be Baptized, and have received the sacraments of First Reconciliation and Eucharist. Students preparing for Confirmation must:
- Complete a series of courses
- Meet attendance requirements
- Select and build a relationship with a Confirmation Sponsor (Sponsor must be a Confirmed Catholic, 16 years of age or older who is not a parent)
- Attend the Confirmation Retreat
- Complete 20 service hours (10 parish community and 10 outside community) and appropriate forms
- Attend rehearsal, reconciliation service, and Confirmation on April 14 & 15.
Reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace because through the reception of this sacrament, the faithful are more closely bound to the Church and enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit through the seven gifts of Courage, Awe & Wonder, Right Judgment, Wisdom, Understanding, Reverence, and Knowledge.
